RTP09

Online Registration is now available!

Sorry we took so long getting it up and going, but it is here now. Online registration is open and can be viewed at Atlantic Chip’s website. The event is at http://www.atlanticchip.ca/events/details.php?show=526 for the Who’s Your Daddy? Adventure race on June 12th in Fredericton and http://www.atlanticchip.ca/events/details.php?show=527 for the 36hr Race the Phantom Adventure Race taking place in Dalhousie NB.

We have limited spots available for the Phantom, so don’t wait too long.

Ehh, what’s up Phantom?

The Phantom will offer racers a new event in 2010, a 12hr race which will run in parallel to the main 36hr Race the Phantom.

As some of you may remember, we attempted to do this back in 2008 and were forced to cancel due to a lack of interest. This year we were asked by a couple of potential racers to include a shorter event so that they could participate. We have answered their request by including a 12hr mini-Phantom, however there are a few catches.

  • we must have a minimum of ten (10) teams in order to hold the event.
  • the teams must be registered and paid before May 30th, 2010.

If either one of these two conditions is not met then we will be cancelling the 12hr event. Online registration will open in January for both the 12hr and 36hr events.

Race the Phantom in 2010

Hard to believe that the year 2010 is almost here and that we are in the planning stages for our fourth Race the Phantom. I don’t think Nat and I thought we would be planning another one four years later. I can only speak for myself, but I am glad we are, I have enjoyed the ride so far.

What will the year 2010 bring to Race the Phantom (RTP)? Hopefully a larger field of racers. The growth and support that we have experienced with the race over the past three years has been great. The first RTP in 2007 had 5 teams participating, 2008 had 9 teams sign up and our best showing in 2009 had a turn out of 15 teams. Our racers came from NS, ON, QC, PE, and NB. What will next year bring? Maybe we can get a team or two from South of the border, I am working on Grant from Untamed New England to get some ideas on how to attract some of our US neighbors.

One thing we are going to focus on for 2010 is establishing a stronger support element to our event. Each year with more racers comes greater responsibility for Nat and I. At this time I think we are at a point where we need to form a committee or two to help deal with some of the details of hosting a 24 or 30hr event. If you are interested in helping us out over the next year with promotion, planning, or execution of those details, please get in touch with me, I would love to hear from you. This includes your ideas, if you have a way to make RTP better in 2010, let me know.

Now for some of the good stuff…..how long will RTP10 be? Will we return to our 24hr format or will we continue to add hours to the 30hr venue we offered in 2009? I guess you will have to keep up with this blog to know for sure. Until next time…..

Cheers

Troy

The King is dead! The King is dead! Long live the King!

The reigning champs Team Angry Seagull have been knocked from the podium at this years Race the Phantom. Congratulations to our winning team Nick & Brian & Cogeyed (aka Week-end Warriors). The guys were able to do something Nat and I knew was possible but very hard to do….they cleared the course. They have claimed the $500 credit for Untamed New England, thanks again to Grant Killian of Untamed Adventure Racing for the great prize.

Second place went to a new team to our race, The Rocket Scientists hailing from Montreal, they did a great job and finished strong missing only CP11.

Third place was awarded to ShawShan Redemption, they were able to almost clear the course, missing only one CP but finishing a few minutes behind the Rocket Scientists, great job Shawn and Shannon (who was recruited on the Monday before the race).

We will tally up the results for the rest of the field this week and post them up here, we will also have some photos and videos to follow.

Have a great week and thanks again for coming out.
